Flight loop transcript, reconstructed from memory and one very long text thread. Columbus, Ohio. Wednesday, October 14, 9:40 p.m. Two people on a couch.
I watch rocket launches the way other people watch football. Live, with snacks, yelling at the screen during the weather briefing. The part I love most is the go/no-go poll. Before anything leaves the pad, the flight director calls every station one by one, and each one has to say “go.” One “no-go” and the whole thing stands down. Nobody argues. Nobody says “eh, it’ll probably be fine.”
Dev and I have done a couples costume for Halloween five years running. This year his friend Marcy’s party is Saturday, October 31. Tonight DressLily’s homepage was a giant “Trick or Treat” banner with a couple in matching purple rose prints, so we sat down to order.
I made us poll it first. Dev rolled his eyes and then got really into it. Here’s how it went.
Flight: “All stations, go/no-go for Halloween.”
PAYLOAD (that’s the outfit): No-go.
DressLily’s Halloween page lists four Halloween couple sets: the skeleton rose with spider webs ($49.99), the skeleton-skulls-and-pumpkin plaid ($39.99), the pumpkin-and-bats one with the slit skirt ($42.99), and a skeleton polka dot dress set. I opened every product page. All four said “Out of Stock.” Only 0 left. The spider web one had a single five-star review that said “Print is detailed, fabric feels soft,” which is nice to know about something I cannot buy.
The banner is still up. The sets are gone. That’s not a scandal, that’s just what mid-October looks like. Everybody else ordered in September.
RANGE (shipping, my department): No-go.
Even if we’d found a set in stock, here’s the math for shipping to the US, straight off their shipping page. Every order takes 1 to 3 business days of processing before it leaves the warehouse. Then:
- Standard: 10 to 20 business days. Free over $69.
- Expedited: 6 to 15 business days. $12.99 for orders from $69 to $168.99, free over $169.
Ordering tonight, Expedited lands somewhere between roughly October 23 and November 9. Standard, somewhere between October 29 and mid-November. The party is October 31. Expedited gives us a window that opens a week early and closes nine days late. That’s not a launch window. That’s a coin toss with a twelve-dollar entry fee.
BOOSTER (budget, Dev’s department): Go, technically. There’s a code on the banner, DL1031: 8% off $59, 15% off $89, 20% off $119. Two sets would clear $89. Dev was very proud of himself for noticing. I told him it doesn’t matter how good the fuel price is if the rocket’s not on the pad.
RECOVERY (returns): Hold. More on this below, because it actually matters for whatever we do buy.
Flight: “Halloween, we are scrubbed.”
Dev wore a cardboard box last year. He says he can do it again. I believe him.
Recycle and Retarget
When a launch scrubs, they don’t throw the rocket away. They recycle and pick a new window.
Our new window is Saturday, December 12. Dev’s office holiday party, the one with the ugly sweater contest he’s lost three years in a row. And while I was scrolling the same Halloween page, the Christmas couple sets were sitting right there, in stock:
- Christmas Couple Outfit, String Lights Print: $49.99, marked 41% off. A bell-sleeve A-line mini “sweater dress” printed with Christmas lights, plus a matching button-up shirt for him. About 499 left.
- Ethnic Christmas Couple Outfit, Nordic Fair Isle Zig Zag Print: $49.99. Same idea, bell sleeves on the dress, a Fair Isle style print instead of lights, and a “HOT” tag on it. About 498 left.
One thing I want to be straight about, because “sweater dress” made me picture wool. The product info on both lists the material as polyester and elastane, “high stretch.” It’s a printed stretch knit that looks like a sweater. For an office party with the heat cranked, honestly, that’s a plus. For standing outside at a bonfire, bring a coat.
Second Poll: “All stations, go/no-go for December 12.”
PAYLOAD: Go. Both sets in stock. On both sets his shirt comes in S through 5XL, which matters because Dev is a 2XL. The dress runs S through XXL, with the size chart mapping S to US 4 and XXL to US 14. I’m a US 8, so their chart says L (US 8-10). I’m checking the actual measurements on the chart before I click, not the letter.
RANGE: Go. Even worst case Standard, ordering tonight, I’m looking at mid-November. That’s almost four weeks of margin before December 12.
BOOSTER: Go, after an argument. One set is $49.99. That’s under the $59 tier on DL1031 and under the $69 free shipping line, so Standard would cost $6.99 on top. Dev’s position: we also go to my mom’s on Christmas Eve, she has been asking for a “matching picture” since 2021, so buy both sets. Two sets is $99.98. That clears free shipping and the $89 tier. If the code works on these sale items, that’s 15% off, so about $84.98. I’m saying “if” on purpose. The banner doesn’t list exclusions anywhere I could find, and I haven’t gotten to checkout yet. The Halloween sale page also had a countdown clock at the top that showed about a day and a half left when we were looking, and I don’t know if that clock is for the page or for the code. Dev says we order before it hits zero. Booster is go, Booster is impatient.
RECOVERY: Go, with a flag. Here’s what I found, and it’s the reason I’m writing this down:
- Returns are within 14 days of receiving the order, unworn, unwashed, tags on, original packaging.
- You contact support first and get an RMA form. You don’t just mail it back. And the address on your package is not their returns address.
- If it’s a sizing problem or you just changed your mind, you pay the return shipping, and shipping fees aren’t refunded.
- The product page says the warranty doesn’t cover swimwear, lingerie, earrings and clearance. But the full Warranty & Return page also lists “any discounted items” in that exclusion, unless it was DressLily’s mistake. These sets are marked 41% off. So I’m treating this as: order the right size the first time, because changing my mind might not be an option.
That’s the flag. It doesn’t make it a no-go. It makes it a “measure yourself with a real tape measure tonight” go.
Flight: “December 12, we are go.”
Post-Poll Notes
Both sets are going in the cart. The only real decision left was which one goes to the office party. Dev wanted the string lights because “they’re literally lights, I’ll win.” I pointed out he’s lost the contest three years straight with literal lights. He folded fast. Fair Isle for December 12, string lights for my mom’s on the 24th.
The real reason for the Fair Isle at the party: the zig zag pattern reads as a sweater from across a room, and nobody at an office party is close enough to check the fabric tag.
Try-on happens the day the package arrives. Not the week of the party. That 14-day return clock starts when it lands on our porch, not when we decide to look at it.
If You’re Running Your Own Countdown
Here’s the Nordic Fair Isle couple set we went with, and the string lights one plus the rest of the current couple sets (and the Halloween stuff, if your party isn’t for a while and something restocks) are on their Trick or Treat sale page.
If your event is Halloween, I’m sorry. Do the math on the shipping before you fall in love with anything. If it’s December, you’ve got time, and that’s the best position to be in.
Standing down for tonight. Dev is already looking for a bigger box.

Prices, stock, the DL1031 tiers, shipping times and costs, and return terms are as I saw them on DressLily on October 14, 2026. I didn’t test the code at checkout. Stock on these sets moves fast this time of year, so check the product page and your cart before you pay.
