My hallway is eleven feet long and has one good light. This week I turned it into a gallery, because I needed somewhere to put the things I bought and a way to explain them to my flatmate that didn’t involve the word “sale.” Below is the wall text, reproduced in full. Admission is free. Please do not touch the tracksuit.
Exhibit 1
Tracksuit, embroidered, acid wash.
Magiri, 2026. Cotton, stitching, one very persuasive product photo.
On loan from The Designer Box UK. Originally £305. Acquired at £165.
The centrepiece of the collection. Visitors often ask why a grown woman needs a matching two-piece in faded charcoal. The curator would like to point out that it is embroidered, that the wash makes it look like it has already lived a more interesting life than she has, and that £140 off is not a number you walk past. The Designer Box lists itself as an exclusive online stockist for Magiri, which is how it ended up on the homepage and, shortly after, in this hallway.
Exhibit 2
Hoodie, unaccompanied.
Magiri, 2026. Sold separately from £90.
A study in restraint. The curator considered buying only the top half, wearing it with jeans she already owns, and feeling mature about it. This exhibit represents that version of her. It is hung slightly apart from Exhibit 1 because they are not currently speaking.
Exhibit 3
Order confirmation, 2:47 PM.
Email on phone screen, propped against skirting board.
Order by 3pm and it’s dispatched the next day. That’s the rule. This screenshot shows thirteen minutes to spare, which is the closest the curator has come to athletic achievement in the tracksuit’s honour. Spend £200 or more and next-day DPD delivery is free; the set alone didn’t quite clear that, which is a separate exhibit about arithmetic the gallery could not afford to stage.
Exhibit 4
Empty hook.
Mixed media: one nail, one absence.
Reserved for a Gallery Dept piece that sits right near the top of the site with a “Discover here” button that is very easy to press. It remains unacquired. The curator discovered it, discovered its price, and discovered she still has rent. The hook stays up. Hope is a medium too.
Gift shop
The sale section is currently marked up to 75% off, and there’s a 14-day return window if something arrives and looks wrong under hallway lighting. I got the tracksuit through The Designer Box UK. That’s an affiliate link, so I earn a small commission if you buy through it, at no extra cost to you. It funds the gallery’s one good light.
Closing time. Exhibit 1 is being worn home.
