A 150 – pound person can burn approximately 250 – 350 calories per hour of moderate – intensity cycling.
Walking is another excellent form of active commuting. In London, many residents choose to walk to nearby tube stations or between work and lunch spots. Westerners are increasingly learning to slow down while eating, chew their food thoroughly, and savor each bite. This helps the body recognize when it’s full, preventing overeating.

These resources teach techniques such as taking deep breaths before eating, setting aside distractions like the TV or phone, and listening to the body’s hunger and fullness cues. In European countries, the tradition of enjoying long, leisurely meals with family and friends already incorporates elements of mindful eating. By being more present during meals, people are less likely to consume excess calories.

Housework and Gardening

Housework and gardening are often overlooked as forms of exercise, but they can be highly effective for weight loss. In European households, tasks like sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming are regular activities. These chores engage multiple muscle groups and can burn a significant number of calories.
